Fedora 11 released

Logo for dedicated server OS FedoraRed Hat’s Fedora Project, which works on the development release that will become Red Hat Enterprise Linux, released Fedora 11 yesterday, the latest and greatest version of the widely popular ‘not-just-for-dedicated-servers’ dedicated server operating system. Not to be confused with Unix, Linux refers to Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel. Fedora 11 has few changes to the Linux kernel and its related systems software and application stack, but includes some changes related to virtualization and general usability.

Some of the features in Fedora 11 are:

  •  ext4 as the default file system
  • experimental BTRFS activated by IcantbelieveitsnotBTR at bootup
  • Faster Bootup aimed at 20 seconds.
  • GCC 4.4
  • KDE 4.2.2
  • Gnome 2.26.1
  • 2.6.29-4 Linux kernel
  • Netbeans 6.5
  • nVidia kernel modesetting through the nouveau open source driver.[54]
  • OpenOffice 3.1.0
  • Python 2.6
  • Xfce to 4.6
  • X server 1.6
